It seems Sharp wasn't too sharp in there decision to use Dolby Mobile.

Sure the Dolby name may help Sharp sell more phones initially, but when other cell phone companies in Japan discover that there are better mobile sound enhancment technologies at a lower cost, perhaps they will wish they chose a mobile suite for its superior technology, not just its name.

I just returned from CES 2008 and saw a demo of CS Headphone by SRS Labs, Inc which was amazing. They are able to produce a 5.1 experience over headphones, which Dolby does not offer.

Also, calling Dolby a wow factor is interesting considering SRS's mobile technology also includes it's patented WOW HD.

Futhermore, I was told their suite will include VIP+ a voice enhancement technology, Volume IQ (to eliminate the volume shifts between commercial to content and between channel to channel).

Anyway, this is just the opinion of one, but personally I'd wait for a phone that encorporated CS Headphone, WOW HD Mobile, VIP+ and VIQ.

Good point there. Still, in mass-market brand name plays an important role and Dolby is a well-known brand to public. Anyway, I can imagine Dolby meeting the challenge of competition's superior technology and matching it in near future. In meantime, Dolby Mobile is already commercial and a first-mover advantage for Sharp is crucial to fence off the rivals. In the end, nothing prevents Sharp to switch to another better technology when it's available.
